FAQs
Will natural dye fade?
Overtime all dyes fade, even chemical/acid dyes, but even faded colours are beautiful! KP Fibre Co. treats all the fibres with a mordant to ensure the longevity of the natural dye. Natural dyes are also sensitive to different types of tap water and the acidity levels, so it is possible for the PH levels of your tap water to change and affect the colour. KP Fibre Co. is not responsible for any colour change.
More saturated colourways are prone to bleeding, so no need to worry if you find the yarn is bleeding during the first wash. Ensure that you wash the object on its own to prevent the dye from transferring to other pieces. Some natural dyes are sensitive to crocking, which is when dye will transfer onto your hands after applying pressure (such as knitting). Wash hands with soap and water to remove any dye. KP Fibre Co. is not responsible for any colour transfer.
Natural dyes are unpredictable, each pot of dye produces unique results and variations from skein to skein. Colour Variegation in each skein of yarn is expected when working with natural dyes.
It is recommended to alternate skeins if you are using more than 1 skein of the same colour in a project and to order from the same dye lot. We do our best to ensure that the pictures taken are as true to colour as possible. Colours may differ slightly on how it appears on your screen due to varying monitor settings.
KP Fibre Co. yarn is dyed using plants and sometimes whole petals and flowers. We wash them before packaging, but some stubborn bits may remain hidden in the yarn.
How to I care for Natural Dyed yarn?
Store out of the sun, soak in a cool/lukewarm water with a PH neutral soap and lay flat to dry.
What are the characteristics of BFL wool?
BFL (Bluefaced Leicester) is a soft, lustrous British wool that is also sturdy and durable. It has a beautiful drape which makes it a great option for shawl knitting. Many people find BFL wool next-to-skin soft.
Overtime, BFL wool can pill on areas with high friction. De-pill and the item will look as good as new!
What can I make with 100% BFL Yarn?
BFL yarn is so versatile! BFL wool is sturdy enough to be used as a natural sock yarn, but can be used for accessories and garments as well. Check out KP Fibre Co.’s instagram for inspiration and our patterns for sale under the Shop page!
